A Postcard from a far flung place

Alison Neville is on a journey from London to Accra in Ghana.

She will travel down through Europe to Tarifa, the tip of Spain. From there its a short ferry ride to Tangier then head down the Atlantic coast to Casablanca where she will fly across the Atlas mountains into Mali.

Picking up the Niger River, in Mali she will follow it to the interior wetlands to visit Djenne, place of amazing mud built mosques, then head south across the Dogon hills into Burkino Fasso, and, from there, follow the Volta River travelling down it’s vast man made lake through Ghana to Accra.

This is the second leg of a journey making a post card map from London to West Africa.

Last year she walked from home, along the Thames to Tilbury, and took a berth on a freight ship to Senegal to follow the Senegal River from St Louis, Mali and into the hills where the West Africa’s great rivers are born, the Futa Jalon highlands in Guinea.

She pre sold sold sixty postcards drew them on site. marked them with their GPS coordinates and mailed them from the nearest mailbox.Buyers were guaranteed a post card, the success rate was good (3 strayed). Alison drew extras to replace the no shows.

In 2010 she will, by kind permission of the recipients borrow all the cards put them in GPS order and exhibit them as a map.

Now, for the second leg of the journey she is continuing the her post card project. If you would like to join in this project click on the PayPal link or send an email to allyneville@yahoo.co.uk
